How to take care of your feet during sandal and thong season?

Posted on Posted in Blog, Foot

Often neglected, sometimes forgotten, your feet do need attention, especially during the summer months. Summer usually means that we spend less time in shoes, we sweat more, and we often have dry skin. Whether you are digging them into the sand at the beach or splashing them in the water, it is always important to make sure your summer feet are in the best condition.

Here are some tips to get you started on the road to happier and healthier feet during sandal and thong season.

1. Moisturise

The hot summer weather can cause your skin to get dry. Moisturising your feet is a great way to keep them looking and feeling good throughout the summer season and to avoid cracked heels.

Although you can use a pumice stone or foot file to remove thick, scaly skin, rubbing too hard could irritate your skin.

The best and safest option is to use a moisturiser every day, such as DU’IT Roll On Heel Balm. Roll On Heel Balm is a foot care gel packed in an innovative roll-on bottle, which can be easily applied to the heels, feet, and ankles. Containing 10% urea, it smoothes and softens dry feet and rough heels, with visible results in 1 day.

If you are looking for intensive treatment, you can choose DU’IT Foot and Heel Balm. Formulated with a high concentration of 25% urea, it works effectively to seal cracks and replaces lost oils, whilst protecting the skin from moisture loss. Try applying a thick cream before bed as a DIY foot mask under cotton socks, it will leave your feet soft, smooth, and supple.

2. Perform regular foot checks

Get to know your feet and check them every day, look for swelling, redness, cracks, and anything unusual. If you like to get pedicures often, make sure you check for any signs of nail infections or athlete’s foot. If you go to the beach a lot, check for cuts and scrapes before and after you take a dip. If you can catch problems early, you can keep them from becoming a whole lot worse.

3. Don’t go barefoot

Walking barefoot can be one of the best parts of summer, as it lets you be a bit more carefree and really get in touch with the sand or water. However, being barefoot can result in cuts and scratches, which could become infected and increases the risk of things like bacterial infection. Where possible, stick to wearing slippers or inside shoes even when lounging at home.

4.  Keep toenails trimmed

Take care in cutting your toenails, and make sure you keep them at a safe and comfortable length. It is best to cut them more frequently and leave them a touch longer to avoid cutting them too short and harming your skin.

5. Treat sweaty feet

If you wear socks, change them daily. Look for specialised synthetic sports socks, often designed for athletes. These materials are designed to wick moisture away from the skin, thus reducing sweat and odour.
